However, for the Yuan (or any other currency for that matter) to become a global/international RESERVE currency, even partially, there must be a large enough volume of investment grade bonds available in that currency. So far, and in the near future, no alternative bonds market seem to materialize. Also a dependable legal framework must be in place. (See Argentina vs the lone hedge-fund).
But the Chinese are smart, so I expect the Chinese plan to eventually offer a bond-market and a dependable legal facilities. But it will take some time.
