“NATO’s new high-readiness ‘Spearhead’ force has been deployed for the first time,” Forces TV reports.
“More than 2,000 soldiers from nine member states are taking part in exercises in north-west Poland.
It comes as NATO head Jens Stoltenberg says the alliance will approve plans this week to more than double the size of its rapid response force,” the news agency reports.
“NATO defence ministers will take a decision to further increase the strength and capacity of the NATO Response Force to between 30,000-40,000 troops,” Stoltenberg said.
“The decision is to be officially announced during NATO’s defense ministers meeting on June 24-25 in Brussels.
The troops will be under the command of 6 HQs to be stationed in Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania. The Spearhead Force will include Special Forces and rapid response teams, enforced with marine and air components.
A new rapid reaction force ready to be deployed within 48 hours was initially intended to consist of 4,000 troops,” according to RT.

The latest massive training exercises in the Eastern Europe, although not as big as the ones conducted by Russia, are NATO’s response to the potential threats created by Putin’s country. Their aim is to show that NATO states are united are ready to tackle any potential aggression on any of the member states.
The military training exercises provide the Eastern European NATO member states with very important, supportive psychological aspects as they felt they were treated as second category members so far due to secret, geopolitical agreements between Russia and the West singed in early 1990’s.
